Step One
Get Forklift Training
The Forklift Operator Training DVD Compliance Kit meets the forklift certification requirements of 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(3). It is available as an immediate download and also by mail on DVD/CD.
Step Two
Designate A Forklift Trainer
Designate an experienced forklift operator to train and certify employees to drive forklifts. The Forklift Trainer Designation Form is included in the Forklift Operator Training DVD Compliance Kit. Forklift trainers must have the:
- Knowledge
- Training
- and Experience
to train powered industrial truck operators and evaluate their competence.
Step Three
Conduct Forklift Training
Forklift Operator Training consists of two important parts. Employees need to be trained on:
- The requirements of 29 CFR 1910.178 - Powered Industrial Trucks.
- Operations specific to the type of forklift in use in the workplace.
- Workplace specific conditions and hazards associated with operation.
Once the classroom training is completed, the employees must complete a hands on operator training and evaluation. Use the included Forklift Operator Certification Form to complete this evaluation.
Step Four
Certify Forklift Operators
The Forklift Operator Training DVD Compliance Kit contains the documentation required to certify employees. OSHA requires the employer to issue written a forklift operator training certification. It must include:
- The name of the operator
- The dates of the training
- The date of the evaluation
- Identify of the person(s) performing the training or evaluation
