Detailed answers to common questions customers ask before purchasing.
Who is allowed to train scissor lift operators?
OSHA expects training to be provided by a qualified person with the knowledge, training, and experience to instruct operators and evaluate their competence. This kit gives your trainer the content and forms needed to run an in-house program.
Does this kit “certify” scissor lift operators?
The kit provides the training materials and documentation needed for an employer-run program. Employers typically “certify” operators internally by completing formal instruction and documenting a hands-on evaluation on the equipment and conditions the operator will use.
Is hands-on evaluation required?
Yes. Classroom or online training is only part of a complete program. Operators should also be evaluated performing tasks on the scissor lift under your workplace conditions. The kit includes a hands-on evaluation checklist and documentation forms.
Does scissor lift training fall under OSHA aerial lift requirements?
Many employers manage scissor lifts within an aerial lift / MEWP training program approach. Regardless of the terminology used, OSHA expects operators to be trained on hazards and safe operation, follow manufacturer instructions, and be evaluated on the job. This kit is designed to support that employer responsibility.
Do scissor lift operators need fall protection (harness)?
It depends on the manufacturer’s instructions, platform configuration (rails vs. anchor points), and your site-specific rules. Many scissor lifts are designed to be used with guardrails as the primary fall protection method, while some policies or situations may require additional protection. Always follow the equipment manual and your jobsite requirements.
Can I customize the written plan and forms for my company?
Yes. The written MEWP safe use plan template and forms are intended to be editable so you can add your company name, procedures, site-specific hazards, rescue / emergency actions, and any lift model considerations.
How many employees can we train with one purchase?
The kit is designed for employer in-house use. You can reuse the training materials and print the quizzes, evaluations, certificates, and wallet cards for multiple operators based on your license selection.
What topics are covered?
Coverage typically includes safe operation basics, hazard recognition (overhead hazards, drop-offs, slopes, wind and weather), stability principles, pre-use inspection concepts, safe driving / positioning practices, jobsite planning, and expectations for operator conduct and supervision.
How do we access the materials after purchase?
If you select a digital delivery option, you can download the files after purchase and begin training right away. If you select USB + download, you’ll also receive a USB while still getting immediate access via download.
Can I upload the training into my company LMS?
Yes, with the Online LMS License. That option is designed for companies that want to host the materials internally for employee training. Materials may not be posted publicly or used for resale.
How often do operators need refresher training?
Refresher needs depend on changes in workplace conditions, incidents, observed unsafe operation, introduction of new equipment, or policy changes. Many employers also perform periodic retraining to keep expectations consistent. Use your safety program and incident history to set a reasonable interval.
Does this replace site-specific instruction or manufacturer training?
No. This kit supports your employer-run training program, but you should also provide site-specific instruction, ensure operators follow the manufacturer’s manual, and evaluate operators on the actual equipment and work environment.
